BREAKING OUT MY WEDDING SHOES

BREAKING OUT MY WEDDING SHOES - BETWEENTHERACKS.COM

I usually don’t wear colors this bright, but this orange Vince dress is one of my exceptions. A simple shift dress is appropriate for so many different occasions, which is why I love them so much. I brought out my wedding shoes to wear with the dress for a special dinner date with Tommy (an early celebration of 5 years of being together today…crap that’s a long time)! These shoes were the only shoes I’ve ever spent retail on (actually the only shoes I’ve ever spent more than $250 on). BUT…I had a few ways that helped the purchase.

The story of my wedding shoes: honestly, a wedding was just the perfect excuse to buy my dream rockstuds and get to wear them after the wedding, too. I knew I would want a designer shoe, so it was important to me to pick something I could wear afterwards. I also wanted a small heel because Tommy and I are the same height, and I tend to slump when I wear tall heels (which I definitely didn’t want for my wedding pictures). As luck would have it, I actually ended up finding the taller nude rockstuds for an INSANE price (around 1/10 of retail), so I thought those would do. When we had our legal wedding (you can’t legally get married in France unless you live there for 40 days beforehand), I wore the rockstuds, and Tommy and I both realized that I was just too tall. In order to afford the kitten heels, I had to sell the tall version…and I cried a little. I sold the shoes for $675, and combined that with a $200 Nordstrom gift card that I won via Instagram. I am also a Nordstrom card holder and used a Triple Points day, so I ended up getting over $100 back in Nordstrom notes when I made the purchase. Long story short, that is how I justified my dream shoe purchase! Not to mention, my dress budget was about 2K, but I only spent $500 on my dress (a story for another post), and $300 in alterations, so I had the excess to allow for the shoes.

Back to the rest of the outfit. The purse was a fabulous Poshmark find at under $100, and I decided to add another element to the look with this nude Alexander Mcqueen scarf (a $60 Nordstrom Rack purchase from forever ago). This was the best idea ever, because the restaurant was freezing, so I wore the scarf over my shoulders the entire meal. Am I the only one who always carries something cover up with because the AC is turned up so obnoxiously high during the summer?!

  1. “…crap, that’s a long time!”

You slay me, girl! Get back to me when you’ve been together for 13, married for 10, and have 3 kids to show for it, lol! Or just consider me your snarky big sister type!

  2. We’ll have to talk about the joy of Southern moms and wedding planning when you’re the same height as your groom/spouse. Many words were spilled about my marrying a gentleman of similar height, which meant flat shoes and small hair, and small headpiece, to give the illusion of my being dainty and demure, as a proper Southern bride would be.

Then my mom had a fit that the dress DID NOT COMPLETELY TOUCH THE FLOOR AND SHE COULD SEE THE SOLES OF MY SHOES AND OMG WHY ARE THE SOLES OF YOUR WEDDING SHOES BLACK?!?!

Ten years later, it’s hysterical. 🙂

    1. Oh my, that sounds peachy! There were definitely a few jokes about Tommy’s height and he wore a shoe with a little “heel” lol. Hence why I wanted a tiny heel too! Thankfully my mom wasn’t crazy, or I would have gone nuts!!!! I imagine you have some great stories though!

I just love a good shift dress, I actually think they may be my favorite next to a good maxi. And I really need to up my handbag game soon. I have sold off most of my handbags when I turned 30, I decided it was time for a wardrobe makeover and have spent the last two years re-building my wardrobe with quality designer pieces. I’m currently working on incorporating new jewelry into the mix but CANNOT wait till I can start splurging on some handbags. Probably around the same time I re-design my closet! Heading over to check out your wedding now! = )

    1. Me too! Shift dresses are so great and I can eat more than I need to for dinner and not have to worry about it, haha 😉 I don’t have many bags, and finally got a Neverfull for a wedding present which I had wanted forever. What bags are you lusting after?!

  4. Poshmark is the best!! I’d loooooove to shop your closet!! And man I am trying to sell my own pair of rockstuds.. Bought the wrong size 🙁 they’re on Poshmark too haha so many reasons to love Poshmark.

    1. Your rockstuds are gorgeous!! I agree, Posh is amazing. I buy way too much. Just (like 5 minutes ago) snagged a pair of leopard Louboutins Piou Piou’s for $125!! They need new heel taps but that’s an easy fix.
