One of the main reasons I decided to start a blog was to be able to meet other people who have the same interests as I do. Today, I’m teaming up with a gal I’ve met through blogging and Instagram, and we are talking about monochrome outfits! Not only does Sophie (of Smitten Sophie) have amazing style, but she’s also an engineer, so we have lots in common. She’s got a bit of everything on her blog, and she is basically the definition of classy (she’s also a really sweet person, which is always a plus of course, LOL)!
In our opinion, you can never go wrong with black and white. Not only does it give a classic look, but it’s also an easy way to look instantly put-together. I went a bit casual with my outfit since we spent the day at the Fort Worth Air Show (it was so cool to see the Blue Angels fly) where we did a lot of walking in the heat. My jeans are the ones I wear all the time by J Brand (I bought a second pair from Poshmark for $25 because they are just THAT good), and my side-slit tee is by Old Navy. Yep, you read that right. For the first time in about 10 years, I went to an Old navy store. A friend had showed me some great basics she got from there, and it convinced me to go to get some tees and tanks. It didn’t disappoint, and I walked away with some perfect-fitting tops that have already been on repeat. Since it was a warm and sunny day (and sun + my face = freckles galore), I wore my favorite summer hat from Target. It’s from last year, but they have almost an identical one this year as well. I would have – and should have – worn my Adidas sneakers, but I wanted to be a bit dressier, so I went with my $80 Stuart Weitzman lace-up flats that I’m in LOVE with. I admit though, they gave me gnarly blisters by the end of the day. Ugh. Sometimes, fashion is pain!

About Sophie’s look:
I usually wear my favorite distressed denim on my day off, however I have recently become fascinated with this pleated skirt. I previous styled this skirt with a chunky knit, but today I wanted to create a flirty and fun look with a hint of edge. If you are looking for a skirt that’s chic, fun and feminine, this is it. Plus it’s a no brainer when it comes to styling.
In today’s look I wanted to step out of my comfort zone and go for a look that you wouldn’t usually expect. I went for a feminine skirt and paired with this moto leather jacket to add a hint of edge. For jackets, I usually wear a size small but for this leather jacket I went for an x-small because I wanted it to always hang open. I have no plans of zipping it up and we all know that leather stretches.
When it came to picking out a top, I wanted something that was feminine and sexy at the same time. This camisole is one of my favorite purchases from last year. I have styled it with practically everything I own in my wardrobe. It’s the perfect top for all occasions. If you are getting this top, I suggest going a size down as they are very loose. I usually wear a size S, but for this camisole I went for an XS. I own the same camisole in black.
When it came to accessories, I kept it very simple. I played up the monochromatic look with this leather bracelet and these black sneakers. The overall look is simple, monochromatic, feminine with a hint of edge.
